Read to start a new journey in 3rd grade!
I am very excited to start a new school year here at Robert Frost! I grew up in Oregon, and went to college at Lewis and Clark and U of O. Then I got married, and my husband and I lived on Kauai for 23 years. We moved back to Oregon, and chose Silverton to be near my family here in town and also in Newport. I have taught in Hawaii, Sherwood, and Tualatin, and have taught a little of everything in 21 years of teaching.
Here's a list of all the roles I've had as an educator: Kindergarten, Title 1, Third Grade, Middle School Librarian, Home Economics., Exploring New Languages, Sixth grade English, Social Studies, Health, and Computers, High School Librarian, Elementary Librarian, 5th Grade, 4th Grade, 6th Grade, and now, back to Third grade. Also, my husband and I co-taught an after school drama program with 6th, 7th, and 8th-graders for 22 years.
This year we will be learning so many new things! I like to start off the year getting to know each student, doing activities such as singing together in order to bond as a class, and establishing routines.
Homework
Reading is an important component of our 3rd grade homework. The most important thing is for children to read books they enjoy! In addition to reading, each month a calendar of activities will go home. You do not have to do all of the activities. Your family can choose which ones to do, and are free to do them on any day, not just the day it says on the calendar. At the end of the month, send the paper back to school.
I look forward to a great year with all of you!
